Sail On! (Arr. Roger Emerson) (Choral, 3-Part Mixed) – Notes from the Composer: This energetic choral piece was commissioned by Allysa Anderson, the choral director at Camden-Rockport Middle School in upstate Maine. It was sponsored by their local arts agency, Youth Arts. She wanted an all-school song, a piece that would reflect their local color and character and would have a chorus that could be sung by the entire student body! It was a challenging assignment but I believe the result is stunning, and with a few tweaks, applicable to any school, anywhere. Feel free to substitute your mascot, “Vikings” or “Cougars” for their “Schooners.” As in keeping with the “writing in the classroom” initiative, have your students write lyrics that reflect your local color and spirit.
